The Department of Orthodontics was started, in conjunction with the Department of Pedodontics, in 1987. The faculty then consisted of the highly reputed Professors like Dr. S.B Shetye and Dr. V.P. Jayade.
Dr. Sumanth Goel was instrumental in establishing a separate and independent Orthodontic Department.

UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM
The goal of the Orthodontics program for undergraduate students is to provide a basic education in Orthodontics for and improved understanding of the diagnosis and treatment planning of various types of malocclusion. The program lays the foundation of basic knowledge of the subject, and assimilates associated skills to enable students to roughly diagnose and understand probable treatment options for the same.
POSTGRADUATE PROGRAM
The program outlined for post graduate students addresses both the knowledge needed in Orthodontics and allied medical specialities in its scope. By the end of the 3-year formal training session, the trainee will be equipped with skill and knowledge to be able to practice basic orthodontics and have the ability to intelligently pursue further apprenticeship to advanced orthodontics. One of the main goals of the program is to instil in a student the willingness to adapt, after crucial assessment and diagnosis, to new methods and techniques of orthodontic management developed from time to time based on scientific research, which are in the best interest of the patient.

TESTIMONIALS
Orthodontics is one of the most sought-after specialties in dentistry. The course is full of challenges and demands hard work and patience. The faculty at KLE Orthodontics
Department makes sailing through this a breeze by helping and guiding the students and simplifying the subject in every possible way. You get to learn the most recent and advanced techniques here. There is always never-ending support and contribution from the faculty to try new things and to carry out new research. Also, there is never a shortage of any material required.
The rigorous course and the practical exposure that you get sets you on a platform that cannot be paralleled. In addition, a stand out feature of the department is the collaboration with the ”Smile Train Project”; which gives you vast exposure in the field of cleft lip and palate and also making you work for a cause.
I would definitely suggest everyone to take this course as there’s no better place to foster minds in this critical phase of learning.
I have always heard about KLE VKIDS, Belgaum for being one of the finest choices for pursuing postgraduation in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics. The field of orthodontics has a wide range of aspects, and here in KLE you are assured of experiencing all of it. The faculty is always there to guide you at every step and to encourage and support you throughout the course and after. The number of different treatment modalities offered here teaches you well about the basics as well as keeps up with the most recent advances. The department through their various academic and research activities also helps in developing presentation and soft skills which has been helpful in other aspects also. The department promotes following ‘buddy system’ which teaches you team work and efficiency. I would definitely recommend pursuing MDS Orthodontics in this college for a fruitful learning experience under one of the best faculty and good infrastructure.
The KLE VKIDS Department of Orthodontics is a clinically strong Post graduate. The faculty are knowledgeable. They come from diverse backgrounds, which allows the students to be exposed to a wide range of skills and various treatment modalities with no boundaries. One can expect to graduate feeling confident and ready to join a fast pace, high patient load practice following graduation from this institute.
I received an education that was second to none. The support from the faculty and clinical staff during my tenure was exceptional. The academic and clinical skills I gained have enabled me to take great pride and joy in my daily work and opened many doors for me. I have developed a successful career path that owes much to my education at KLE VKIDS.. I am currently the Principal and Head of the Department, Orthodontics at Sinhgad Dental College and Hospital Pune, and everything I do today is because of the strong foundation laid down for me at KLEVK IDS.
I feel that, on the whole, my education at KLE VKIDS prepared me well for my transition to a successful career. Today I am a well established private practitioner with my own Orthodontic lab, and a lingual and aligner specialist. I wouldn’t trade my experience at KLE VKIDS for anything. I miss my post-graduation days at KLE, and I would suggest anyone to join for setting them on the right path in life.
It fills my heart with so much joy when I think of my Alma mater. Those wonderful three years were the best days of my life. I still remember people telling me post graduation days are going to be really hectic and stressful. But when I look back, I cannot remember how fast the three years went by, which was filled with lots of learning and laughter. I am really grateful to my beloved teachers and the entire ORTHO KIDS family for giving me the most cherishable days of my life and in guiding me in becoming what I am today.
Thankyou.
