Prof. Sandeep Shrivastava, Born on 3rd July 1968, is a distinguished academic leader, compassionate clinician, and institution builder whose career, spanning more than three decades, reflects a lifelong dedication to healing, learning, and service. As Vice-Chancellor of KAHER, he offers calm, visionary stewardship rooted in academic rigor, innovation, global engagement, and a deep commitment to socially responsive healthcare education.
A pioneer in Health Professions Education, he holds MS and DNB in Orthopaedic Surgery, a PGM in Global Leadership, and a PhD in Health Education with a focus on Quality Assurance. An alumnus of Gajra Raja Medical College, Gwalior; he has grown from a devoted student of medicine into a revered teacher and mentor. Recognized as a postgraduate teacher and PhD supervisor in Orthopaedics and Regenerative Medicine, he has guided generations of clinicians and scholars—including senior faculty member at 70 years of age—embodying the belief that learning has no age and teaching no hierarchy. Before assuming the Vice-Chancellorship, he served in several pivotal leadership roles, including Dean at a remarkably young age, CEO of a major hospital network, and Executive Director for global initiatives. His tenure in these roles has been marked by institution-building of enduring valueestablishing super-specialty healthcare facilities, new academic campuses, digital learning ecosystems, and simulation-based training platforms that continue to shape future-ready medical education.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, he led from the front as head of a large dedicated COVID hospital, guiding teams with courage and compassion to deliver uninterrupted critical care, and life-saving services during one of healthcare’s most challenging periods.
An accomplished clinician-scientist, Prof. Shrivastava is widely respected for his expertise in joint replacement, spine surgery, limb reconstruction, deformity correction, and complex trauma care. His scholarly contributions include over 130 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals like LANCET, JBJS , JPOB,JOT etc; 7 books; more than 200 international presentations across 18 countries, and significant intellectual property achievements, including 17 copyrights and 3 patents.
Beyond academia and clinical practice, Prof. Shrivastava has made notable contributions to professional development, public engagement, and humanistic education. He is the author of thought-provoking works on resilience and life transitions, including the widely appreciated book SORTED — Because Rising Softly Is Still Rising, which explores inner strength, balance, and growth in the face of modern pressures, and The Last Chapter, The First Page, a reflective narrative on renewal, purpose, and rediscovering meaning beyond conventional milestones. He has also conceptualized and conducted numerous workshops and training programs on postgraduate medical education, healthcare leadership, professional ethics, faculty development, communication skills, and the holistic dimensions of medicine, including spirituality and life of care—seeking to nurture not only competent professionals but also compassionate, resilient human beings.
His work has been recognized with numerous national and international honors, including an Honorary Doctorate (USA), Best Academic Surgeon Award, International Icon Award, Rashtriya Chikitsa Sewa Bhushan, Lifetime Achievement recognition, and several professional gold medals. Yet, he remains known as much for his humility and accessibility as for his accomplishments.
Deeply committed to inclusive growth, he has devoted a substantial part of his career to strengthening healthcare delivery and medical education in rural and underserved regions, championing the ideal of equitable health opportunities for all.
As Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Shrivastava continues to guide KAHER toward greater excellence through quality assurance, interdisciplinary research, digital transformation, international collaborations, and value-based education aligned with national priorities and global standards. He firmly believes that collective participation, sustained perseverance, and thoughtful preservation of core values together form the true elixir of enduring excellence.
